THE 2011 FIFI AWARDS SPOTLIGHT THE YEAR’S TOP SCENTS
The Fragrance Foundation hosted its 39th annual FiFi® Awards and Celebration on May 25 under the tent at Damrosch Park at New York City’s Lincoln Center. The awards ceremony celebrated the world of perfumery and honored the revered fragrances that were introduced throughout the year. As the new Chair of the Board for The Fragrance Foundation, Jill Belasco welcomed attendees and declared that her mission for the year was “to make sure we continue to challenge ourselves, to make the Foundation relevant to the industry and offer the industry new and enticing reasons to not only join us but to be active and participate.” Ms. Belasco added that “the more we’re willing to dialogue on and about our industry, not as competitors but with shared goals and objectives, the stronger we’ll be as companies.” The esteemed audience at the FiFi®s consisted of industry leaders, Perfumers and a dazzling roster of celebrities that included Actress Kate Walsh, Singer Mary J. Blige, Singer Trey Songz, Actress Padma Lakshmi and Actress Tiffani Thiessen.
The coveted crystal FiFi® award statues were presented to over thirty honorees, with the addition of several categories that were new to this year’s event. For the first time in FiFi® history, the Fragrance Hall of Fame category, which recognizes scents that were introduced fifteen or more years ago, honored scents in both women’s and men’s segments. Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey and Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male were inducted into the Fragrance Hall of Fame. During the ceremony, Actress Halle Berry received the award for The Elizabeth Taylor Celebrity Fragrance of the Year, while Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson won the New Celebrity Fragrance of the Year for her premiere scent, Outspoken by Fergie.
This year also gave distinct recognition to two Fragrance Specialists who were the top scorers on The Fragrance Foundation’s Certified Fragrance Sales Specialists (C.F.S.S.) Certification Exam. The C.F.S.S. program was designed to establish the professionalism of fragrance selling through educating and certifying Sales Specialists. The two top scorers, recognized from the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 sessions, were Amanda Markey, Nordstrom, Ross Park in Pittsburgh, PA and Nicole Maki, Nordstrom, Mall of America in Bloomington, MN.
