FIT PAYS TRIBUTE TO LAUDER AND DILLARD SCIONS
It was a family affair at the 25th Annual Awards Gala to benefit the Fashion Institute Of Technology & FIT Foundation on March 15 when The Estée Lauder Companies’ Executive Chairmanand Dillard’s Inc.’s Vice President were honored. William Lauder received his award from Dillard’s, Inc.’s Chairman and CEO William Dillard II. The Estée Lauder Companies’ Chairman Emeritus presented the award to William Dillard III.
FIT has had strong ties to both families over the years said Dr., President of FIT, who said the school has been the “beneficiary” of their generosity. The FIT Gala raised $2 million to benefit the FIT Educational Development Fund. Dr. Brown stressed the importance of student aid and declared that the school “works hard to remain affordable.” She shared that 65% of students at FIT receive financial aid.
Approximately 640 people watched as Leonard Lauder presented the FIT award to William Dillard III whom he considers “part of our family.” William Dillard III thanked his father for “leading by example.” He informed that “FIT has a thriving faculty and 85% are women.”
When William Dillard II gave William Lauder his award, he recalled that both families “go back a long way. The Dillards and the Lauders are fortunate to have multiple generations in the business.”
“FIT is a spectacular institution unique to New York,” affirmed William Lauder in accepting his award. He marveled at how FIT benefits “students as well as executives at every level.” He thanked all of The Estée Lauder Companies’ retail partners and shared it was special to be “honored with Bill III.”
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the FIT Packaging Design Award. Majors in Packaging Design were challenged to create a new package for Estée Lauder pleasures. The winner was Nina Juang who received $5,000. The two runners-up, each receiving $1,500, wereand .
